1860 news – At Newark Mound in Ohio artifacts & Skeleton with 12 Rings found on his chest


Below are the newspaper report published as they found items in the mounds located just outside of Newark, Ohio in Lickings County.   They found a Skeleton with crossed arms and on his breast were 12 copper rings. This Skeleton was in a boxed coffin. They thought the Skeleton maybe Moses.

The 8 inch box found had early Hebrew script and later this box became known as the Decalogue box and it does have on it the 10 commandments. The other item found is called the keystone.

Archeologists call the people that built these mounds the Hopewell culture.
